This new hotel adaptively reuses and extends a heritage listed brick factory, creating a singular and memorable hospitality offering.

Referencing the cast work of sculptor Rachel Whiteread, the new facades of the development are a pre-cast concrete ‘inside out’ of the original façade. They register the brick corbelling, window framing and fine detail of the original building in a massive and monumental way. The pigmented concrete is akin to the brick colour, creating a striking brick red street wall, announcing the hotel and its multi-hospitality offering.
The design connects existing and future parts of the city, with a semi-private link from the proposed metro station up through the site. Several different scaled hospitality venues use the site topography, for example a large, gracious restaurant sits over the street, while a compact speakeasy is partially underground.
Hotel rooms use the grace, proportion and industrial heritage detailing of the warehouse building fabric within the old building. New rooms match in scale but strip back the detail and have carefully place windows to catch oblique park and city views.
